Nature Unlimited is an approved provider of John Muir Awards, having taken over 100 children and young people through their Discovery and Explorer Awards.
The John Muir Award is an environmental award scheme focused on wild places. It supports people to connect with, enjoy and care for nature, landscapes and the natural environment – wild places.
Four Challenges are at the heart of the John Muir Award and are designed to promote a holistic approach – including awareness, understanding and action – and reflect John Muir’s wilderness experience. To achieve a John Muir Award each individual participant engages in a range of activities that meet the following four Challenges
- Discover a wild place
- Explore its wilderness
- Conserve it
- Share your experiences
After successfully achieving all the challenges for your level, you will be rewarded with a nationally recognized certificate.
There are three different Award Levels – Discovery, Explorer and Conserver to encourage a progressive involvement.
“This achievement means so much to the pupils. For some, it’s the only certificate that they are likely to get”
Guidance teacher, Galashiels Academy
“Gaining their John Muir Discovery Award – many of these pupils do not engage in a lot of extra-curricular activities so this will be a vital part of their school profiles and CV’s in the future”
Rebecca Griffiths, Teacher of Additional Needs, Hawick High School
